Markets: aerospace/government

The Aerospace/Government sector makes use of leading edge electronic and optoelectronic devices. Sensors are used for everything from night vision goggles to complex image acquisition systems that find both commercial and government applications. Cooling of these devices to very low temperatures improves the signal-to-noise ratio and allows images to be acquired in very low light conditions. Laser diodes for target painting also require cooling and temperature stabilization.

Aerospace and government applications also require advanced electronics that generate significant amounts of heat. These electronics must be ruggedized for shock and vibration and in many instances must be sealed against the environment making traditional thermal management systems such as use of a fan impossible to employ. Thin film TECs applied at the source of the heat can work to cool the devices while also minimizing the amount of heat that has to be rejected through the enclosure and into the environment. Another advantage of thin-film TECs is that they offer resistance to extreme shock and vibration.
